Manipulation of text variables

Date to number

With this option you can transform a text variable containing a date into a number. The number of days between the date indicated and the date in the text variable is calculated.

Often a date is written as three numbers with “slashes” between them. There are several conventions for writing a date.

Information needed:

-	the name of the variable in the file which contains the date, and the format used

-	the reference date

-	the variable which will contain the number of days between the two dates.

Text to labels

Text variables can be converted to labels. The label codes are generated automatically. The target variable can be either a new or an existing variable. This option is recommended if you have imported data and wish to change text to labels.

Text Search

Text Search is a useful option to find the records that contain a particular name.
