Boxplot

Top  Previous  Next

After the selection of this option you are first asked to choose the variables to be plotted, unless only one variable is valid. You can use more than one variable, even all of the variables at the same time, with the >> button. On the right-hand side of the screen there are a number of options and buttons:

Variable

With this button you can select another variable to be plotted.

Divide

With the Divide option you can divide the data in subgroups. For example, you can divide a file of students into a group of male students and a group of female students.

Each subgroup has its own boxplot.

Title

With this button you can add a title to your graph. (All graphs should have titles!) This title should make the purpose of the graph clearer when you print it.

Horizontal

The boxplot(s) are drawn horizontally.

Vertical

The boxplots are drawn vertically.

Outliers

You can choose to show the outliers, or to extend the whiskers of the boxplot to the extreme values. Outliers are shown by a cross. The definition of an outlier is an observation further away from the center than 1½ inter-quartile range from the nearer quartile.

Pull-down menu

These options are also available from the pull-down menu below Boxplot. In the pull-down menu you can turn off the panel on the right-hand side with the menu option Buttons.
