New file

With this option you obtain an empty table. You must create the variables and enter the data. You can create variables and change them in two ways:

- in the data table

- in Data Variables

 

Open file

With this option you can load data from a file. The file could be on the hard disk, a floppy, or a CD. The file you want to open must have the extension .vus, for example myfile.vus

ASCII files can be opened in the menu Options > Import.

 

Import Excel files

This allows you to import Excel files into VUstat. Many of the opportunities available in VUstat are not available in Excel or it is quite tedious. For example: the ability to split a variable into several sub-groups or to encode a variable label.
If you import a file, a window will open. To the left all variables are displayed and in what format they will be imported. One can adapt the format but it is best to do this in VUstat. To the right are the data for the selected variable.
Files in Open Office
Spreadsheets made ​​in OpenOffice can be imported into VUstat if you save them as xls files.
With Google Docsyou can very easily produce polls. The answers are in a spreadsheet you can save as an Excel document and then import into VUstat. Save file

With this option you can save a file. It is saved with its original name and original position.

If you wish to use a different name or directory you should use the option save as.

 

Save file as

In this option you can save a file with a new name or at a new position, or both.

 

Information about file

A file should be documented.

For a correct interpretation of the data it is important to know where the data came from. So you might give the source of the data, when and how they were collected, and whether the data are free for distribution. This sort of information can be saved in this place.

 

Close

File is closed. The data table becomes gray.

 

Output

Here you can select which variables to include in the output.

The output can go to printer, file, clipboard or Word.

Printer setup

Here you can select a printer and change the settings of this printer.

 

Main menu

This returns you to the main menu.

A file which is open stays open. Later you can continue to work with this file without having to re-open it.
