Which distribution is it?

Top  Previous  Next

Every time the program randomly chooses a distribution there is a 50% chance of distribution 1 and 50% chance of distribution 2.

It is up to  you  to determine whether the samples should be drawn from Distribution 1 or Distribution 2.

You start the game by clicking one of the four "draw” buttons (1, 10, 100 or 1000).

If still unsure of your choice, you can try out various alternatives..

Eventually you should always make a choice.

When the game is started, the “decide” buttons are enabled. Once you think you are really sure , you give  your choice by pressing the appropriate button..

Once your choice has been  made, your choice is checked..

The wipe-out button in the top right-hand corner gives you the chance to start all over again.

Change distribution

You can change the number pool by the content of the list.  In theory, you can use the number pool also to mimic the proportions, with enough zeros and ones. You can save the settings.

Discrete distribution

The discrete distribution associated with the list is shown.

Points

In the settings you can use the points you get for right and wrong and change the cost to migrate.

Simulate

To assess  the probability of a result obtained, simulations are done. 100 times from distribution 1 and 100 times from distribution 2. The results  are displayed with boxplots. It is not easy to combine the various boxplots with each other, but you do obtain  an indication  of  what is possible.

Odds

Through the program settings you can also show the odds. This is the probability of the outcome in  Division 1 divided by the probability of this outcome in Division 2.

The odds is a very simple tool to determine a good strategy. However, it is the intention that the users of this game with chances work with  reasoning and do not simply apply one of the two rules.
