Import

Top  Previous  Next

With this option you can import data files made by another program, for example a spreadsheet. These can be ASCII-files (most of the time TXT-files)  or files made with a previous version of VUstat. The text file is converted to a data table.

First row

In the text file, the first line can contain the names of the variables. This must be indicated here. If you do not know whether or not this is the case, you can just try it or look at the text file in Word. If there are no names in the first row the names V1, V2 etc. are used. The names can be changed later. It always makes sense to check the type of the variables. With Change Variables you can make the changes.

Separation

Tabs, commas and semi-colons are often used to separate the values in a text file. You can indicate what separators are used.

Missing values

In data sets there are often records with missing values. In text files such missing values are often coded, for example 999. This code must be known in order to interpret the missing value correctly in VUstat as *.
