First click in an empty column to open a window to define a variable. It is essential to give a Name to this variable and specify its type. Often the first variable will be the name of an entity and the second variable the frequency
Entry from Data analysis
Data can be send to Dataplot from several parts of the Data analysis module. This makes it possible to produce attractive graphs.For example: you can make a frequency table in Data analysis in Table > Frequency table and then send the data direct to Dataplot.
In a frequency table data are organized into classes. Exporting a frequency table from Data analysis to Data Plot the variable of the first column of the table therefore will be a type text variable. To be able to calculate data organized into classes usually the midpoints of the classes are used. In Dataplot a column containing these class midpoints should be added by hand. In case of a just integers in the first column, you can change the type of text into integer.

File
Data files can be opened in Data analysis as well as in Dataplot. The Data analysis environment works with records, and is meant for the analysis of data. The Dataplot environment is designed for the graphical presentation of data in frequency tables.
Import
With the menu-option Option Import you can read ASCII files with different separators, especially files exported from Excel.
