Editing graphs

Top  Previous  Next

The Edit button is in the graph window. Every adjustment made in the Edit window is immediately made on the graph so that you can decide whether it is what you want.

In the Edit window you have the choice between three-dimensional graphs and the showing of a grid. There are also some tab pages which are described below.

Graphs

With the check boxes, you put a graph on or off. Double-clicking on the color box allows you to change the color, but this can also be done from other tab pages.

With the buttons Choice type you can select another type of graph.

Format of graph

In this option you can select a graph type, and adjust the format and the style of the data labels. The options depend on the type of graph. For a line diagram there is the possibility of just plotting the points. Just experiment and see what you like best.

Axes

With a bar chart or line diagram there are four axes: left, right, top and bottom. Usually the axes have names or numbers and have a title.  The scale of the axes can be adjusted too.

Titles

Titles are at the top. Footnotes at the bottom. A title is a short summary of the drawing. A footnote can be used to mention your name or copyright.

Legend

The legend gives information about the meaning of different parts of the graph. It might be used to explain different groups shown on the graph.

Panel

You can choose a color for the background.

Using Gradient, you can have a background which changes from one color to another.

Gradient applies to the whole drawing.

You can also choose to have an image as a background to your graph.

A Background Image is inside the axes and has priority over the Gradient.

Some bitmaps are available in the map Background images. You can make a background image yourself from a photo or drawing. This has to be saved in bitmap or jpeg format. You can then open the image in Dataplot.

3D

On this tab page you can make all kind of 3D effects.

Warning: 3D effects may look spectacular, but they are often not helpful. Use with care!

If Orthogonal axes is on, not all the options are active. (Orthogonal means that the axes are perpendicular to each other.)
